Lauren E. Benishek, PhD, is an Organizational Psychologist. Currently an Assistant Professor in the Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality, Dr. Benishek’s research focuses on improving healthcare professionals’ work lives while consistently supporting high-quality, safe patient care. She is particularly interested in understanding workplace conditions, especially interpersonal team-based dynamics, that impact the healthcare workforce’s well-being and engagement. She and her team are dedicated to identifying, developing, and successfully implementing empathetic evidence-based best practices that respond to the diverse needs and preferences of the workforce to support healthcare professionals with feeling and performing their best at work. 

To assist with the pursuit of these and other research goals, Dr. Benishek has received financial support from various local, national, and international sources including the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Dutch Society of Surgeons. Her work has been published in numerous research outlets including the Journal of Applied Psychology, Frontiers of Psychology, the Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety, JAMA Surgery, and Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, among others.
