Our endoscopy unit is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and staffed by experienced gastrointestinal consultants, nurses and technicians. Each year, we perform more than 5,000 procedures, including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy and video capsule endoscopy. We also perform advanced endoscopic procedures such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), which is used in the diagnosis and treatment of many pancreatic and biliary diseases.

This procedure enables the examination of the esophagus, stomach and first part of the small bowel. Before the procedure, you will be lightly sedated to keep you relaxed. A thin, flexible tube will then be inserted into your mouth and through your esophagus, stomach and first part of your small bowel. You should not immediately return to work or drive following the procedure, and we recommend that you ask family or friends to escort you home.

This procedure enables the examination of the whole colon. The day before the procedure, it is important that you drink a bowel preparation to clean the colon. Before the procedure, you will be lightly sedated to keep you relaxed. A long, thin, flexible tube with a tiny camera at the tip of the tube enables specialists to see the inside of the colon. You should not immediately return to work or drive following the procedure, and should ask family or friends to escort you home.

Our Gastoenterology (GI) Clinic is not a self-referral service, so your Primary Care physician will make a referral for you if he/she believes you need a gastroenterologist to evaluate your condition. When you arrive at the GI Clinic you will be checked in, and within five minutes a gastroenterology nurse will carry out an initial clinical screening. Wait times are around 15-20 minutes, and your appointment will usually last 20-30 minutes.

Depending on your condition, you may need to take part in further imaging procedures and/or lab tests. All of these procedures and any follow-up appointments can be arranged by the GI team at the front desk. If you have further diagnostic and/or intervention procedures, we are on hand to take you through any necessary preparations and answer all your questions about your next steps.
