The first subtalar arthrodesis surgery at JHAH was conducted by JHAH orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Syed Mohsin Ali, to treat painful subtalar osteoarthritis that has not responded to other conservative measures such as analgesics, steroid injections and physiotherapy.
"JHAH is a regional pioneer in using Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) on the foot and ankle, our goal is to be a regional leader in this specialty, and this milestone is part of the growth and expansion plan we have for every orthopedic subspecialty in JHAH.” said Dr. Syed Mohsin Ali.
MIS, also known as laparoscopic or keyhole surgery, is performed using small incisions and slender instruments as well a tiny camera to conduct the procedure. This reduces recovery time, scarring and time in the hospital. Currently, JHAH is conducting arthroscopic ankle and subtalar fusion and MIS techniques in diabetic foot deformity correction surgeries.
