Pandemic Weight Gain

Weight gain was one of the many outcomes of the COVID-19 stricken world due to an increase in sedentary lifestyle brought on by working from home and other COVID-19 restrictions.

How can you get back on track and shed the extra weight?

It all has to start with you. If you are motivated enough to want to change than you can achieve it.

Goal Setting

Start by writing down your health goals, they can be as broad or as specific as you want. For example you can make list losing 8 kilograms, exercising at least 45 minutes per day for six days a week, or starting a new type of physical activity.

The idea is to get motivated enough to get back to your active and healthy lifestyle if you have fallen victim to a sedentary one due to the global pandemic.

Portion size

Managing your weight can start with looking at how many calories you need per day, you can enlist the help and support of a dietitian to give you a more precise calculation. Once you figure out how much you should eat, you can be more cautious with your food portion sizes, the goal is to ensure that the calories you are consuming aren’t more than what you burn in a day

Healthy Eating

Eating healthy starts with you avoiding high-calorie foods that come in forms of desserts, sugary drinks, fried foods and foods that are high in saturated and trans saturated fats. Even having a small amount can de-stabilize your caloric intake goals. Eating fruits and vegetables, complex carbs, and lean proteins and healthy fats in nuts and seeds can help keep you feeling satisfied and able to fight your cravings.

Hydration

Staying hydrated also positively can satisfy your hunger, by drinking water prior to your meals you can feel full and therefore not consume your entire plate an go for seconds. Hydration is also key to your mental and physical health.

Physical activity

Physical activity is key to getting back on track with your health goals, with numerous benefits, exercise is a complement to your healthy eating habits. Try exciting new activities, or join a friend’s exercise routine to make working-out more enjoyable. The key is consistency, as you can work-out and burn off calories but if you don’t stick with a consistent exercise plan you risk gaining weight and miss out on the amazing benefits of exercising.

The pandemic turned our world upside-down, we were all affected one way or another. Yet, we all had time to reflect and be grateful, and now it is time to put our health as a priority, and our wellbeing as a goal. Stay motivated, and achieve your goals, your body and mind will thank you.
