Bringing Chemotherapy Care Closer to Home: AHHC Launches New Infusion Service
Al-Hasa Health Center (AHHC) has reached a significant milestone in oncology care with the launch of its new Chemotherapy Infusion Service, bringing specialized treatment closer to patients throughout the Southern Area.
With five chemotherapy infusion cubicles/chairs, the service is designed in accordance with MOH and CBAHI standards and operates from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Bringing Care Closer to Patients
The new service is expected to support approximately 80% of eligible oncology patients in the Southern Area, with a projected capacity of approximately 1,200 chemotherapy infusion visits annually.
For eligible patients who previously travelled to Dhahran to receive chemotherapy infusions, treatment can now be provided locally at AHHC. Importantly, patients continue to benefit from continuity of care with their primary oncology team, supporting a coordinated approach throughout their treatment journey.

Investing in Specialized Expertise
A critical element of the project was establishing a dedicated oncology nursing workforce. Five oncology nurses were recruited and completed specialized training at the Center of Excellence in Oncology in Dhahran, equipping them with the knowledge and competencies required to deliver chemotherapy infusion care safely and effectively.
The service is further enhanced by a dedicated oncology case coordinator to support the treatment journey to make it as seamless as possible for patients.
A Meaningful Step Forward for Southern Area Oncology Care
The launch of the Chemotherapy Infusion Service represents an important step in the continued development of specialized healthcare services in the Southern Area. By utilizing local clinical resources and expanding access to oncology treatment, the service is expected to enhance patient convenience, reduce unnecessary travel and contribute to a more seamless care experience.
The initiative reflects JHAH’s continued commitment to patient-centered care, improved access, operational excellence, and strategic service development in alignment with the Centers of Excellence (COE) strategy.
As the service moves beyond its pilot phase, the team will continue to monitor performance, patient experience, and operational capacity to support the sustainable delivery of high-quality chemotherapy infusion care at AHHC.
