Earlier Detection, Earlier Action: JHAH Wins First Place at the Ada’a Health Awards

JHAH’s Adult Health Maintenance Program – part of its wider Preventive Health Maintenance Program – earned first place at the Ada’a Health Awards after completing more than 13,000 preventive health visits and helping identify previously undiagnosed conditions and elevated chronic disease risk through a proactive, data-driven model of care.

The Adult Health Maintenance Program at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) has placed first in the Early Detection of Chronic Diseases category of the Excellence in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention track at the 2026 Ada’a Health Awards.

The award was presented at a ceremony at the King Fahd Cultural Center in Riyadh on September 9, 2026. Dr. Fahd AlGurashi, Chief of Staff, accepted the award on behalf of JHAH.

Now in its eighth edition, the Ada’a Health Award is organized by the Ministry of Health in partnership with the National Health Insurance Center. It recognizes healthcare organizations that achieve measurable improvements in the quality of care, service efficiency and patient experience.

Since its launch in 2026, the program has completed more than 13,000 preventive health maintenance visits as of September 2026 and helped identify previously undiagnosed conditions and elevated chronic disease risk among the adults assessed – 11% were newly identified with prediabetes, 6% with obesity, 2% with hypertension and 2% with diabetes. By detecting these conditions earlier, care teams can intervene sooner and help prevent future complications.

“This recognition from the Ministry of Health reflects the direction we have set for JHAH: to keep the people we serve healthy, not only to treat them when they are ill,” said Dr. Howard Podolsky, Chief Executive Officer at JHAH. “Prevention delivered systematically and at scale is how a health system creates lasting value – for our patients, for the communities we serve and for the Kingdom’s health transformation under Vision 2030. And it is the JHAH teams who made that vision real.”

At the heart of the program is a risk-stratified approach to population health. Adult patients are categorized into high-, medium- and low-risk groups based on their health profiles, allowing care teams to prioritize screening, follow-up and outreach where they can have the greatest impact. To date, 42% of eligible high-risk adults and 37% of eligible medium-risk adults have completed assessments through the program, with outreach continuing.

Chronic disease registries help identify patients living with conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, while proactive screening and recall systems help ensure that recommended assessments and monitoring are completed on time. The program also uses MyChart to connect directly with patients through reminders and preventive care notifications, helping individuals stay engaged in their health even when they do not have an upcoming appointment.

Clinicians and case managers are supported by advanced digital tools that consolidate relevant patient information, enabling more efficient clinical review and decision-making. Structured follow-up processes then help close gaps in preventive screening, chronic disease monitoring and risk management.

“This award belongs to every member of the JHAH team who contributed to the success of our Adult Health Maintenance Program,” said Dr. Fahd AlGurashi, Chief of Staff at JHAH.

The program brought together a multidisciplinary team that included physicians, advanced practice clinicians, nurses, care coordinators, case managers, population health specialists, clinical informatics professionals, IT, Epic and MyChart analysts, data analysts and medical leaders, with vital support from the Process Improvement Unit.

The award adds to JHAH’s record at the Ada’a Health Awards, which includes first place in the Early Detection and Prevention category in 2022 and recognition in 2024 for improving compliance with venous thromboembolism risk assessment and prophylaxis.

The award also reflects JHAH’s continued shift from episodic, reactive care to a coordinated, preventive, population-based model of healthcare. This approach aligns closely with the Kingdom’s Health Sector Transformation Program under Saudi Vision 2030, which places prevention, digital health and proactive care at the center of the national healthcare agenda.

Patients are encouraged to speak with their care team to ensure their preventive screenings are up to date and to use MyChart to review health reminders, appointments and important preventive care messages.
