JHAH first in Middle East to use Epic Dorothy to enhance home healthcare with digital automation

Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) is proud to announce that it has been ranked 5th in Saudi Arabia in the prestigious Newsweek Best Hospitals 2025 report. This marks an impressive rise from 12th place in 2022, making JHAH the fastest-rising hospital in the Kingdom. The achievement underscores the organization’s commitment to providing exceptional care and achieving clinical excellence.

In addition to this remarkable ranking, JHAH has secured the 2nd position among private sector hospitals in Saudi Arabia, reinforcing its standing as a leading provider of specialized healthcare.

“We are honored to be recognized as one of the top hospitals in Saudi Arabia,” said Dr. Michael Walsh, JHAH Chief Executive “This achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication, expertise and hard work of our entire team. Every department has contributed to this success, whether through improving patient care, enhancing clinical outcomes or expanding access to services.”

Patient-Centered Care at the Core

At JHAH, the "Patient First" value is a cornerstone of the organization’s mission. As a Planetree GOLD-recognized organization since 2020, JHAH remains steadfast in its commitment to person-centered care. This recognition is a direct reflection of the hospital’s focus on placing the human experience at the forefront of patient care, ensuring that patients' voices are integral to every aspect of their journey.

Advancing Patient Outcomes and Satisfaction

JHAH’s dedication to improving patient outcomes is further demonstrated through its integration of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) into key clinical specialties. These specialties include Ophthalmology (Cataract Surgeries), Orthopedics (Total Knee Replacement), Neurosurgery (Back Procedures), Pain Management and Cancer Care. By prioritizing patient feedback in the treatment process, JHAH ensures that treatment effectiveness and patient satisfaction are continuously improved.

Looking Ahead

This ranking is a collective achievement, and JHAH is proud of the dedication and teamwork that made it possible. “We look forward to continuing to build on this momentum as we work toward setting new standards of excellence in healthcare,” said Dr. Michael Walsh, JHAH Chief Executive.

Looking ahead, JHAH will continue to enhance the patient experience through ongoing initiatives and strategic plans aimed at expanding access to high-quality care.

Previously, home health clinicians had to be connected to the network to review patient medical records and update the patient’s chart. Now, with Epic Dorothy, they can do this while they’re out in the field – even if they don’t have a data connection.

Epic Dorothy has multiple offline capabilities, allowing clinicians to access patient summaries, schedules, and care plan interventions when they do not have a data connection. Clinicians can also capture wound photos and complete wound assessments with or without a data connection, with the information added automatically to the patient’s comprehensive health record.

One of the most impactful features of Epic Dorothy is “silent scheduling,” whereby clinician visits are automatically scheduled for the future based on historical visits. This proactive approach enhances continuity of care and ultimately, improves health outcomes.

Epic Dorothy also streamlines documentation through its ROVER mobile app, which automatically pulls patient information into new reports. Further, the system automates the process for nurses who need to amend referrals from referring physicians, preventing unnecessary delays and ensuring smoother transitions in care.

The ability to monitor and document patient progress at the point of care takes away the need for paper documentation and manual data entry, thereby improving efficiency. This saves time during visits, allowing clinicians to see more patients every week.

Dr. Alahmree expressed appreciation for each team member in the Home Health Unit and Epic@JHAH team, acknowledging their hard work in bringing the project to completion. “It’s evident that their dedication to excellence has been a key driver behind every milestone reached,” she added.

JHAH worked with Epic for almost a year to implement the Dorothy module.
