JHAH Expands Access to Specialized Therapy with New Rehabilitation Center

Purpose-built facility brings JHAH’s rehabilitation services together under one roof, introducing robotic and advanced therapies and a patient experience redesigned under the Care Forward Strategy.
Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) has opened a new Rehabilitation Center in Dhahran in June 2026, consolidating its rehabilitation services in a purpose-built facility designed to speed recovery, strengthen patient privacy and expand access to specialized therapy.
Now running from Building 554 on the Dhahran Health Center campus, the center gathers the Rehabilitation Division into a single dedicated hub. JHAH frames this within the Care Forward Strategy and its goals of elevating access to care, enabling Centers of Excellence and enhancing the patient journey. The new facility has more than doubled in size, growing from 900 to 2,000 square meters and increasing treatment rooms from 25 to more than 40, while creating an environment built for collaboration across care teams.
The expansion answers clear and rising demand. JHAH projects rehabilitation patient visits will grow by more than 33% this year – from 58,594 in 2025 to a forecast 78,201 in 2026. This mirrors regional increases in stroke, sports-related and musculoskeletal injury and chronic pain, which are conditions that call for sustained, specialized care. Bringing these services together on one campus also reduces the need to refer patients to providers outside JHAH.
With the larger footprint comes a suite of services that was not previously available on site. A new Robotic Hub draws on advanced robotics to support precise, effective therapy, while a Magneto Therapy service introduces electromagnetic treatment for pain management and tissue healing. An Assistive Technology Clinic helps patients regain independence through adaptive devices, and a dedicated occupational therapy splinting room supports custom orthotic fabrication. A Comprehensive Neuro rehabilitation and Sport performance Lab add capacity for complex rehabilitation, along with two fully equipped, segregated gyms for male and female patients that house the latest equipment for physical and occupational therapy.
The difference will be felt from the moment a patient arrives. Clear wayfinding points visitors to the right clinic, while natural light and quieter, well-ventilated treatment spaces create a calmer setting for recovery. Curtained bays have been replaced by closed treatment rooms that protect privacy, and the added capacity is designed to shorten the wait for an appointment. Wide corridors and wheelchair-accessible layouts cater to those with limited mobility.
For Suad AlKhonaizi, that difference is not an abstraction. A 70-year-old retired teacher from Al-Qatif and a JHAH patient of 15 years, she manages ongoing joint problems and has recovered from double knee replacement surgery with the help of regular shockwave treatment and physical rehabilitation. Working with M. Hala El-Baghdadi, a Senior Physical Therapist at the center, AlKhonaizi did not know what to think when she heard the center was moving.
“Seeing it for myself completely changed my perspective. I was genuinely impressed with the facilities,” she said. “From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed and given a full introduction to the center. It is bright, spacious and genuinely welcoming.”
The change carries into her treatment. “Previously, it was a challenge to get an appointment with the right therapist. Now, access is much smoother, and I can receive the specialized support I need and follow my care plan,” she said. She finds the therapists “smiling, relaxed and fully present,” while adding, “It makes a huge difference in how you feel as a patient.”
The move also advances JHAH’s wider campus strategy. By relocating rehabilitation into a dedicated building, the organization makes clinical space available in the main hospital for future growth. This also moves it closer to a model in which each major specialty operates as a dedicated Center of Excellence.
The center is also built to keep people well, not just to treat them. Early intervention, patient education and advanced therapy can reduce complications and the risk of readmission, while evidence-based programs help patients return to work and regain their independence sooner.
For AlKhonaizi, the verdict is simple. “This feels like a dream come true,” she said. “I actually look forward to coming here and continuing my treatment.”
For the public, the immediate gain provided by the new center is straightforward and essential – care that is more comfortable, capable, nearer and quicker to reach. It sends the clear signal that JHAH will continue to invest in the quality of life and the wellbeing of its communities.
